Dubai: New three-lane bridge cuts travel time from 12 to 4 minutes
Signal-free route eases traffic for 4,800 vehicles per hour
Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has inaugurated a new bridge in Phase 4 of the Al Shindagha Corridor Development Project, marking a crucial step in improving the city’s traffic infrastructure.
The three-lane bridge, spanning 1.35 kilometres, accommodates 4,800 vehicles per hour. It connects Sheikh Rashid Road, at its intersection with Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Street, to Al Saqr intersection on Khaled bin Al Waleed Street.
The bridge facilitates seamless movement to vital areas, including Al Shindagha’s Historical Area, Infinity Bridge, and Deira.
How it benefits travellers
Motorists now experience a dramatic reduction in travel time, from 12 minutes to just four minutes, between Sheikh Rashid Road’s intersection with Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Street and Infinity Bridge. This signal-free route ensures smoother journeys for commuters.
Al Shindagha Corridor
The Al Shindagha Corridor Improvement Project is one of the largest infrastructure undertakings by the RTA, spanning 13 kilometres and encompassing Sheikh Rashid Road, Al Mina Street, Al Khaleej Street, and Cairo Street. The initiative includes the construction of 15 intersections, significantly enhancing road capacity and safety.
With over 70% of Phase 4 completed, a second bridge linking Al Mina Intersection to Sheikh Rashid Road is set to open by January 2025. The project aims to slash travel times along the corridor from 104 minutes to just 16 minutes by 2030.
Projections indicate savings of Dh45 billion over the next 20 years due to reduced travel times. Furthermore, it prioritises elevated traffic safety standards, ensuring a more secure driving experience across the city.
