DUBAI: Residents across the UAE woke up to a thick blanket of fog on Sunday morning, affecting key areas such as Abu Dhabi and Al Dhafra.

The National Center of Meteorology (NCM) issued red and yellow weather warnings as dense fog drastically reduced visibility in several internal and coastal regions. Motorists were urged to drive cautiously, with authorities advising against high speeds due to hazardous road conditions.

Among the worst-affected areas were Al Shinayin, Zayed International Airport, Al Rahabah, Al Hamra, Al Bdayah, Al Zarraf, and Bu Hasa, where visibility dropped significantly. The fog is expected to persist until 9:30 AM, prompting travellers to allow extra time for their journeys.

Temperature trends

Despite the morning fog, the UAE is experiencing fair weather, with mild temperatures across different regions. In internal areas, highs are forecasted between 32°C and 26°C, while coastal and island regions will see temperatures ranging from 27°C to 32°C. The mountainous areas remain cooler, with temperatures hovering between 21°C and 26°C.

As the night progresses into Monday morning, humidity levels are expected to rise, particularly in western coastal areas. The increase in humidity may lead to mist formation, adding to early-morning driving challenges.

Eid Al Fitr 2025 celebrations

Meanwhile, millions of worshippers across the UAE gathered for Eid Al Fitr prayers, marking the end of Ramadan. In Dubai’s Al-Qusais area alone, an estimated 15,000 people attended the morning prayers, including families, children, and elderly worshippers. Large congregations were also reported in Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, and other emirates.

In Saudi Arabia, grand Eid prayers were held at Masjid al-Haram in Mecca, led by Imam Sheikh Abdul Rahman Al-Sudais, and at Masjid an-Nabawi in Madinah, where Imam Sheikh Abdullah delivered the sermon. King Salman extended Eid greetings to the Muslim world, acknowledging the devotion of millions of Umrah pilgrims during Ramadan.

Elsewhere, Eid was observed in Qatar, Bahrain, Kuwait, Turkiye, and Russia, while countries such as Oman, Indonesia, and Brunei will celebrate on Monday. In the UK and US, celebrations remained divided based on different moon-sighting traditions.

For many, Eid is a time of joy and unity, but in Palestine, families are observing the occasion under dire conditions, with food shortages and displacement affecting thousands. At Al-Aqsa Mosque, thousands gathered for Eid prayers, offering special supplications for those in hardship.
