Dubai: A recent study by Musafir.com, a prominent online travel agency in the United Arab Emirates, reveals that Europe is the most sought-after destination, capturing a significant 40% of travel inquiries. This is followed by CIS countries (Commonwealth of Independent States) at 30%. Far East Asia also proves to be a popular choice, garnering 25% of inquiries, while Africa captures the attention of 5% of UAE residents seeking adventure or unique experiences.
The data, compiled through travel inquiries, reveals a distinct inclination towards exploring a wide range of regions across the globe. "As we approach the Eid Al Adha break and the summer vacation season, we're witnessing a dynamic shift in travel preferences among UAE residents," stated Raheesh Babu, COO of musafir.com.
Key travel trends observed for Eid Al Adha and summer vacations 2024:
Travel durations
Approximately, 45% of travelers prefer quick 4-5 day getaways, while 35% opt for longer 7-10 day vacations during Eid Al Adha break.
For longer trips, visa-friendly destinations like Japan, Vietnam, Malaysia, and Thailand are irresistible. Classic European spots like the UK, Paris, and Switzerland remain popular, promising unforgettable experiences.
Popular destinations
Travelers have mixed preferences, some choose to stay at popular UAE beach destinations like Ras Al Khaimah and Fujairah, while for others, the CIS countries, such as Armenia, Kyrgyzstan, Georgia, Azerbaijan, and Kazakhstan, hold tremendous attraction for their cultural richness and scenic beauty.
Destinations like Japan, Vietnam, Thailand, Hong Kong, Bali, Malaysia, and Zanzibar offer vibrant nightlife, rich cultural experiences, and beautiful beaches. Kenya’s wilderness and the Red Sea’s coral reefs in Saudi Arabia provide unique nature encounters.
For those seeking relaxation with a tinge of adventure Turkey, Bali, and Thailand are top choices.
The USA is a favored destination, especially for UAE travelers seeking diverse experiences. From Los Angeles and Las Vegas to Chicago and New York City, the USA offers a vast array of adventures. There has been a 10% increase in UAE travelers planning trips to the USA this summer.
Europe continues to enchant travelers, with Schengen countries like Germany, Switzerland, France, Greece, and Spain leading the way. Emerging Eastern European destinations such as Latvia and Slovenia, are also gaining traction among UAE travelers.
As summer temperatures rise, travelers seek cooler destinations. Abha in Saudi Arabia and Salalah in Oman are becoming popular havens, offering respite from the heat and unique cultural experiences.
Notably, SalamAir will resume its non-stop Fujairah to Salalah flights from July 3rd to August 31st, 2024, for the Khareef season.
Inbound tourism
UAE remains a top destination for international travelers, attracting visitors from India, China, Russia, Pakistan, and CIS countries. Despite a slight dip in summer tourism due to the heat waves, inbound travel is expected to rise again post-August, driven by new entertainment and luxury hotel offerings.
Hotel preferences
Travelers are leaning towards 4 to 5-star hotels that offer luxury and affordability.
Group tours
Group tours are increasingly popular due to their all-inclusive packages and hassle-free arrangements. These tours offer a blend of camaraderie, exploration, and adventure, making travel easy and enjoyable.
