Thrilling free-to-attend BMX and Trials events return to Nation Towers
Abu Dhabi is all set to host the highly anticipated 2024 UCI Urban Cycling World Championships this December, once again welcoming the world’s top urban cycling talent to its vibrant cityscape.
This thrilling event, which will take place from December 17-21 at Nation Towers, is free to attend and is expected to draw massive crowds keen to experience BMX Freestyle and trials competitions up close.
The UAE capital previously hosted the championships in 2022, captivating thousands of fans with a dazzling display of skill and energy.
“Hosting the 2024 UCI Urban Cycling World Championships reflects the confidence of international sports federations and bodies in Abu Dhabi’s ability to dazzle, excel and be professional in organising the largest global sporting events for various types of sports,” remarked Aref Al Awani, General Secretary of the Abu Dhabi Sports Council (ADSC).
When and Where
The event will unfold at Abu Dhabi’s Nation Towers, a prime venue for spectators to take in the thrilling urban cycling disciplines of BMX Freestyle, including Park and Flatland categories, and elite-level trials. The championships coincide with the 2024 Mother of the Nation Festival along the nearby Corniche, providing attendees with access to both sporting action and family entertainment.
What to expect
The championships will feature BMX Freestyle (Park and Flatland) events for both men and women, alongside trials competitions spanning categories like Women Elite, Men Elite (20’’ and 26’’), and junior competitions. The free admission to such a high-calibre event makes it a rare opportunity for Abu Dhabi’s residents and visitors to see the world’s top athletes in action.
David Lappartient, UCI President, shared his excitement, stating, “After an extremely successful event in 2022, I am delighted that we return to Abu Dhabi with the 2024 UCI Urban Cycling World Championships. The city provides a fitting setting for the spectacular urban disciplines of BMX Freestyle and trials, and with free entry to Nations Towers, the local population will have easy access to witness the best in the world in action.”
