Dubai: Illegal UAE residents can use three major channels to submit documents to apply for amnesty starting September 1.

Amnesty seekers can avoid legal action including fines for overstaying to rectify their residence status either by leaving the country or regularising their status during the two-month grace period which begins on Sunday, September 1.

“There are three ways through which people can apply for visa amnesty in Dubai this time,” said Major-General Obaid Muhair Bin Suroor, Deputy Director-General of GDRFA in Dubai, Gulf News reported.

GDRFA has made  arrangements for a special amnesty tent in the premises of its office in Al Aweer, said Bin Suroor.

GDRFA Awir Tent

The amnesty tent in Al Aweer will be open from 8am to 8pm, he said.  It will mainly be the facility to  capture the biometrics of those who are required to do it.

That means not all applicants need to visit the Al Aweer tent. It is a must to visit there only if the applicants are required to submit their biometrics or are referred to visit Al Aweer after submitting the applications in the Amer centres.

86 Amer centres in Dubai

Bin Suroor said other applicants can visit any of the Amer centres to submit the applications. There are 86 Amer centres across Dubai that are ready to receive applicants.

“We have had a meeting with the representatives of all the Amer centres. Most of them have agreed to open on this Sunday to facilitate the amnesty procedures. It depends on each centre to work on the upcoming weekends during the amnesty. Some may work on some weekend days while others may not,” he explained.

Use GDRFA app

However, people can submit their applications 24x7 through GDRFA’s website or app as well, the official highlighted. “Our services through our online channels are available 24x7.”

Bin Suroor urged residents and visitors eligible for visa amnesty to come forward and make use of the opportunity to legalise their residency status.
